How old do I have to be to attend?
LTU Expo is an all-ages, family-friendly event. We ask that attendees avoid cosplays or general attire with explicit themes, nudity, and/or inappropriate language. Keep in mind that this is a college campus and it is alcohol-free, as well as smoke-free. Any panels or events that are mature in nature are scheduled late in the evening and identification is checked at the entrance for any event that is age-restricted.
I’m a minor. Do I have to be accompanied by an adult?
No, but we recommend bringing a parent or friend if you are not familiar with the area.
Can I wear this?
Thank you for asking! Please use your best judgement: avoid cosplays and general attire with explicit themes, nudity, and/or inappropriate language. We would like to maintain an all-ages, family-friendly event. Check out our policies and guidelines for more information about cosplay safety and our dress code. If you still have questions, feel free to send us a message.
Will there be food and drink options available?
Yes. We are proud to announce that the Hero Or Villain food truck will be preparing a special menu for our event! Alternatively, we will have a snack bar available by the staircase in the artists and dealers hall/atrium. The location of the convention is also surrounded by restaurants, with plenty of different options around 10 Mile and Evergreen Road.
When will the schedule be available?
While we appreciate your enthusiasm for the event, LTU Expo will not have an official schedule web-ready until a couple weeks prior to the convention.
How much is the admission fee?
General admission is free! If you would like to purchase a collectible badge, all proceeds go towards the LTU Expo 2020 budget. Standard attendee badges are $5. Staff/Volunteer and Vendors/Guest badges are free.
Is there security?
Yes. Campus Safety patrols the parking lot and will be observing all building locations during the event.
What is the behavior policy?
Anything that is illegal outside of the convention is illegal inside the convention. Note that behavioral policy is subject to perspective: If you are doing anything out of line; Campus Safety or LTU Expo Staff reserve the right to ban you from re-entry if the offense is severe.
Can I consume alcohol within the convention space?
No. LTU is an alcohol-free, smoke-free campus. We cannot stop you from consuming alcoholic beverages off-campus, but please act responsibly in the convention space.
What is the dress code?
Remember that LTU Expo is an all-ages, family-friendly event; please use your best judgement and avoid cosplays or general attire with explicit themes, nudity, and/or inappropriate language. Proper footwear must be worn at all times. Any forms of body paint or makeup MUST be sealed. Check out our cosplay safety policies and guidelines and our dress code. If you still have questions, feel free to send us a message.
Weapons & Props
What is the weapons/props policy?
No weapons or props are permitted on campus at any time (per the Office of Campus Safety). No real/replica weapons or firearms (includes plastic, wood, foam, etc). No live steel or projectiles of any kind (arrows, Nerf darts, etc). No exceptions.
All non-weapon props must adhere to campus policies. You must be able to safely carry props around the convention area without risk of any kind of injury to yourself or others, or the destruction of property. Check out our cosplay safety policies and guidelines for more information.
We are working on changing this ruling in the future, so please be courteous of the current rules (we know this really sucks!). If you bring a weapon/prop or if a portion of your cosplay is deemed unsafe for the convention space, you will be kindly asked to put it in your car or remove it from the premises. If you do not comply, this may result in removal from the event, as well as Campus Safety involvement.
Which parts of campus will be occupied by the convention?
LTU Expo will occupy spaces in the College of Management, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Architecture, and the UTLC Building. Updated maps will be provided online prior to the event, and map printouts will be available on-site during the event.
Do I have to pay for parking?
Nope. Parking is free!
How do I submit an application for _____?
All submission forms can be found here. Please review the guidelines and deadlines beforehand. We welcome all submissions, however, due to scheduling and limited space we will not be able to approve every submitted application for LTU Expo.
When will I find out if my application is approved?
All applications (artists/vendors, game expo, panels, tournaments, photo booths, etc) must be reviewed collectively by the LTU Expo planning staff before we can determine whether or not to approve each individual submission. We will announce when we are able to send out confirmation emails for application approvals.
Photography & Videography
Am I allowed to take pictures/film videos?
You are welcome to take pictures of the convention space and of consenting attendees, within reason. Please do not wander into spaces outside of the convention areas (maintenance buildings, administrative offices, lab spaces, dorms, etc) for the purposes of privacy and safety. Keep in mind that general photography for personal documentation is permitted since campus is considered public domain, but case-by-case instances between individuals taking pictures/being photographed should be dealt with between the participating parties. If the situation cannot be resolved in a civil manner, please notify LTU Expo Staff or Campus Safety.
Can I set up a photography booth at the event?
Please submit a request to receive approval for a photography/media booth. Because the convention floor space is limited, we will reserve a room for you to operate out of. We do not recommend setting up photography lighting without proper permission during the event; you will be asked to remove your equipment from the area.
